Among all makeup brushes, one will definitely stand out. I'm not saying that this brush is the best of its kind out there because I'm no makeup brush expert but in my own little brush world, this baby truly is the star.

Presenting the Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush. Perhaps I'm very late to post a review on this amazing brush because everybody has been raving about this ever since it came out. Please forgive the quality of my photos as the brush was not yet washed that time and it came out straight from the box, so you might notice some "kitty hair" scattered or clinging on the brush. =)
This is what Shiseido says:
This is what Shiseido says:
Finally, a foundation brush for use with all formulations - liquid, cream or powder. Shiseido's innovative technology combines with traditional Japanese brush-making techniques to create the perfect foundation finish. Excellent pick-up of all types of formulas for a uniform application and impeccable finish. Gently tapered strands create an angled slant that best allows bristles to reach all facial contours. Short handle allows for precise control during application and portability for travel.
I must be honest, and I should tell you that there's no actual marketing ploy there. Every word they said was absolutely true.

I have used this brush for my liquid, cream and powder foundations. And even concealers of cream and liquid type. One day I was even tempted to try and use it on my cream and powder blushes but Nah, I resisted the urge. hahaha. =) And amazingly, the little wonder does work on ANY formulation. It delivers that even and flawless finish --- even while I was sitting on the passenger seat at 80kph. At first use, I didn't actually see any notable difference, but as I continuously use it, day by day, and learned how to effectively do so, I discovered what makes it "perfect".

It's about 4 or more inches long, the size perfect enough for good control of the brush (whether I want my makeup sheer or heavy, control is effortless) and it keeps me closer to the mirror too. The bristles are made of synthetic fibers, which are firm and very pliable. The brush is really soft, no scratchy feeling or any unpleasant feeling at all against the skin. It is very densely packed which makes picking up foundation easy and nothing actually goes to waste. It has an angled/slanted cut, which allows the brush to reach and fit any corner of my face which an ordinary stippling brush or a regular foundation brush might miss --- like the corners of my nose and on the eye area for example. The bristles does not shed or bleed. The ferrule is made of metal aluminum with the brand imprinted on it and the handle is made of wood.

I use a dabbing/stippling motion as I work with the brush and then smooth it out to blend the foundation evenly. The flat yet firm surface makes dabbing and blending easy which produces an immaculate and flawless airbrushed finish, with no brush marks, no cakes, or streaks at all. I also noticed that transfers have been minimized, probably because the foundie does not only sit on top of my skin but is evenly distributed instead. My makeup just doesn't rub off. And since I'm just dabbing it all the way until I build up my desired coverage, it cuts my foundation application up to almost half the time. It's perfect when you're on the go and in a hurry.
Over-all, I'm definitely impressed with the Perfect Foundation Brush. One downside though, Shiseido strongly advices to avoid using the brush with water-resistant formulas. I wonder why. But being the hard-headed curious cat I am, I disobeyed the rules. So far, nothing drastic happened. It did not affect the quality of the brush in my opinion. Probably, the only reason for it is that water-resistant formulas are obviously difficult to remove which might affect the bristles in the long run, be it in their quality or in picking up makeup.
So if you use makeup, don't think twice, get this brush and see for yourself how it changes your foundation experience.
The Perfect Foundation Brush is priced at 1500 pesos at all Shiseido branches/counters locally. It may be a bit pricey but consider it as a long-term investment.
